Kaarlo Sarkia(1902-1945)
It's a shadowy evening,
and smoke rises from saunas.
A corn crake solitary
just creaks somewhere.
By the wall of a cottage
there is a red poppy,
and from somewhere the smell of hay
swims over the fields.
Afar sounds the sough of a rapid
throughout the silent night.
Over a fen meadow mist
now rises white.
A corn crake solitary
again creaks somewhere...
It's a shadowy evening,
and smoke rises from saunas.
(Maisema; Kahlittu, 1929.)
