WEDDING DANCE

Yrjö Jylhä(1903-1956)

Happiness is yours, but grief I have,
I have a funeral, you a wedding.
So give your hand now as a bride
when you still see me for the last time.

They dance at your wedding, but soon with them
the maidens of the underworld will take me to frolic.
For sake of your happiness I leave from here,
your eyes blessing may they follow me.

Soon you shall end your dance, soon you will be old,
but eternally young you will always see me.
To the ladies of the underworld I go for a wedding,
you will have a funeral, I a wedding.

(Häätanhu; Risti lumessa, 1937.)
