Eino Leino(1878-1926)
Beginning of life I searched,
the edge of infinity,
the root of world, of God,
the end of eternity;
now is problem learned:
God is grief.
Sorrow solely greatness creates,
grief the lands changes.
You arrive like a storm-wind,
you reflect eternal stars
in the gloom of evening.
Cottage peaceful you build
in a dark heart,
plant firs on the threshold,
myrtles in the minds of people;
look upon the frolicking of youths
under broad-leaved trees.
(Sua Lemmin; Talviyö, 1905.)
