Eino Leino(1878-1926)
Road at least doesn't end,
even when it doesn't to heaven rise.
Word, song flies
even when stepping down.
I go to the bottom of a ravine,
to the bosom of a laughing mouth woman.
My path to night I guide,
I leave the cottages of the day, the moon.
Doesn't feel goodness there,
only hate and love
and the depth of passion,
night's fire, dark blaze.
Laulajan lohdutus has been translated from the page 88 of the anthology Jo valkenee kaukainen ranta: Suomalaisia runoja(1989), which was edited by Hannu Sarala.
