OVER THE WOOD ALREADY DAWNED THE BREAK OF DAY

Eino Leino(1878-1926)

Over the wood already dawned the break of day,
when on the grass a maiden went,
the blooming flowers open already their buds threw,
which on yesterday evening they closed.

And the maiden young on the grass just
so quietly, quietly stepped,
and the flowers nodded whispering,
when from the dew the hems wetted.

Yli metsän jo koitti päivän koi - has been translated from the page 121 of the anthology Jo valkenee kaukainen ranta: Suomalaisia runoja(1989), which was edited by Hannu Sarala.
