THE GRIEVING GARDEN
Edith Södergran(1892-1923)
Oh, that the windows see
and the walls remember
and that the garden can grieve
and a tree can turn to ask:
Who hasn't come and what hasn't been well,
why is the emptiness heavy and doesn't say
anything?
Bitter carnations stand in lines beside
the road,
where the dusk of the fir is unexplored.
