Colours detach,

black was left:

      mountain is a giant's head,

white was left:

      birds are pecking the temples of the head,

gray was left:

      the ship of the blind sails past.      

Stóra Dímun has been translated from page 242 in the anthology Uuden runon kauneimmat 1(1970, 1. printing 1968), edited by Hannu Mäkelä(1943-).This anthology itself was selected from an earlier one, edited by Osmo Hormia(1926-83), Uuden runon kauneimmat : valikoima modernia suomalaista lyriikkaa vuosilta 1946-1956(1958).
