Ilmari Pimiä(1897-1989)
Over the limpid, glittering water
goes the flight of the gulls quietly in the night.
And the reeds sway in happy dreaming.
Like a song dying
plays the rustle of the wings -
and a surge passes in the shore grass.
They fly, snow white flocks,
and beyond great seas disappear.
In my chest a great joy I feel secretly:
Like the birds of the dark waters
life with its sorrows
so disappears - and never again returns!
Kuin linnut tumman veen...(1926) has been translated from the anthology, edited by Satu Marttila (Satu Koskimies, 1941-), Juha Virkkunen(1941-2008) and Mirjam Polkunen(1926-2012), Tämän runon haluaisin kuulla 2(1989), page 246.
